Borage oil
Borage seed oil is a pale, light oil with almost no scent of its own. It’s especially rich in gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), which makes it one of our go-to oils for dry, sensitive or easily unsettled skin.
What is borage seed oil?
Borage is a flowering herb with bright blue, star-shaped flowers. The oil is pressed from its seeds and contains essential fatty acids, including GLA and linoleic acid.
Borage seed oil benefits for skin
The fatty acids in borage seed oil help support the skin’s natural barrier, the layer that helps hold in moisture and protect against everyday environmental stress. It adds nourishment and suppleness without a heavy or waxy feel, helping dry, rough or tight-feeling skin feel softer and more comfortable.
Its high GLA content makes it particularly useful in formulas for dry, delicate and mature skin, where maintaining moisture and suppleness is especially important.
How to use borage seed oil
Borage seed oil is usually used as part of a facial cream, serum or treatment rather than on its own. Apply products containing borage after cleansing and after any water-based mist or serum.
Borage seed oil in Twigroot skin care
Borage seed oil brings its GLA to three of our facial formulas.
It helps support dry, sensitive skin in our Light Facial Cream, and it’s one of the berry and seed oils that give our Magus Serum its deeply nourishing, velvety finish.
In our Borage Eye Cream, it’s one of the star ingredients alongside blueberry seed oil, helping soften and protect the delicate skin around the eyes.
Our borage seed oil is organic, Canadian grown and cold pressed. We source it locally and value it for both its quality and its high GLA content. It’s a good example of the kind of ingredient we look for at Twigroot: plant-based, thoughtfully sourced and chosen for a clear purpose within the formula.
