Chamomile
Chamomile has a sweet, apple-like scent and a gentle nature that makes it one of the most comforting botanicals for skin. Most people know it as a calming tea, and it brings that same soothing quality to skin care.
What is chamomile?
Chamomile is a small, daisy-like flower with white petals and a golden centre. It has been used in teas, rinses and skin care for centuries. In skin care, it’s often used as a hydrosol—the aromatic floral water produced when the flowers are steam distilled. Chamomile hydrosol carries the plant’s aromatic compounds in a light, water-based form.
Chamomile benefits for skin
Chamomile contains naturally occurring plant compounds with antioxidant and soothing properties. It’s best known for its calming quality, helping to ease the appearance of redness and leaving skin feeling comfortable and refreshed.
Its gentle nature makes chamomile especially well suited to facial products for sensitive or easily unsettled skin. As a hydrosol, it also adds a light, fresh botanical quality to water-based formulas without feeling heavy.
How to use chamomile
Chamomile hydrosol works beautifully in mists, cleansers and light creams. It can be incorporated into an everyday skin care routine whenever the skin needs a gentle, refreshing touch.
Chamomile in Twigroot skin care
We use chamomile hydrosol in three of our facial products. It calms and softens in our Clarity Facial Cleanser, pairs with rose geranium in our Florae Hydrating Mist, and helps comfort sensitive, redness-prone skin in our Light Facial Cream.
We choose our ingredients with the same care we bring to the botanicals we grow ourselves. When a plant isn’t grown in our gardens, we look for high-quality, responsibly sourced ingredients from Canadian suppliers whenever possible. Chamomile hydrosol is one of those ingredients, bringing the gentle qualities of this familiar botanical into our facial care while supporting our commitment to thoughtful sourcing and ingredient traceability.
