Niacinamide Vit B3

Fingertip with a dab of plumping serum containing Niacinamide

Niacinamide is one of the few non-botanical ingredients we use. It’s a gentle, well-studied form of vitamin B3 that works alongside our plant ingredients to support healthy, resilient skin.

What is niacinamide?

Niacinamide, also called nicotinamide, is a water-soluble form of vitamin B3. It occurs naturally in foods such as grains, legumes and leafy greens. For skin care, it is produced to a pure, consistent standard and has no scent or colour, making it easy to incorporate into creams, serums and mists.

Niacinamide benefits for skin

Niacinamide helps support the skin’s natural barrier, helping skin hold on to moisture and stay comfortable. It is also known for helping reduce the appearance of redness, uneven tone and dullness, while supporting balanced-looking skin.

Because it is generally gentle and well tolerated, niacinamide is useful across a wide range of skin types, including sensitive, redness-prone, oily and combination skin.

How to use niacinamide

Niacinamide is well suited to daily skin care and can be used morning or evening. It layers easily with other ingredients, making it simple to incorporate into a routine alongside hydrosols, serums, moisturizers and facial oils.

Niacinamide in Twigroot skin care

We add niacinamide to a small number of our formulas to provide barrier support alongside our botanical ingredients. While it isn’t a plant extract, we value it for being gentle, effective and well suited to the kind of everyday skin care we formulate.

It helps support sensitive skin in our Light Facial Cream, supports the skin overnight in our Hydrating Night Cream, and helps brighten and support the delicate skin around the eyes in our Borage Eye Cream.

You’ll also find niacinamide in our Vitality Plumping Elixir, as well as our Lavande Hydrating Mist and Florae Hydrating Mist, where it adds barrier support to every spritz.

Niacinamide is not something we grow or source locally, so we choose it from established cosmetic ingredient suppliers that can provide the purity and consistency required for skincare formulation. For us, thoughtful sourcing means choosing the right ingredient for the formula, whether it comes from our own gardens or from a trusted supplier elsewhere.
