Self-Heal (Prunella)

Self-Heal (Prunella)

Self-heal is a small herb with purple flower spikes that we grow in our Cortes Island garden. We dry its flowers and leaves and slowly infuse them in oil for our body care, a simple connection between the garden and the products we make.

What is self-heal?

Self-heal, also known as prunella or Prunella vulgaris, has a long history of use in traditional herbal preparations. Today, research is exploring the plant compounds behind that traditional interest.

Self-heal benefits for skin

Self-heal contains rosmarinic acid and other plant compounds that have attracted interest for their antioxidant activity. Research on skin cells suggests its extracts may help reduce oxidative stress, while another study explored their potential to support processes involved in maintaining collagen.

Self-heal in Twigroot skin care

Traditionally valued as a soothing herb, self-heal is part of the botanical blends we choose in Shinrin Yoku Body Oil, Blossom Body Cream and Herbiary Hand Cream. In each, its oil infusion works alongside other botanicals in a formula made to nourish and help heal the skin.
